Patterns, and harmonies surround us in the natural world from the parallel blades of grass in the park to the round pebbles in the river. Using plants and rocks we’ll experiment with these geometries and colors creating our own temporary outdoor installations and have paper mandalas for you to color and take home. Though it is late in the planting season, we’ll also share techniques for making “seed bombs” these are flower and plant seeds packed together in a dirt or paper scraps that you can toss into empty lots or other unplanted spaces to create a guerrilla garden patch. Flora material for the evening is kindly donated by RiNo’s own Beet and Yarrow in the Source Hotel
Our special co-host for the evening will be gardener/activist/yoga instructor/lovely human Kia Ruiz, who will talk with us about the connections between nature and people both as communities and individuals.
Part of the Art Park al Fresco series this July and August we'll be making a host of unconventional and totally cool interactive objects together, from building tiny Art Cars to making needle point graffiti- we'll be working in all types of mediums with art making for every age. Workshops are free with all supplies included. Kids, teens and their adult friends are all encouraged to participate with individual and group projects.
We’ll have some snacks on hand and you’re also welcome to bring a blanket and picnic dinner to chill with us in the park.
